Party time as the doors finally open on One Dalkeith

-

A gala event will signal the grand opening of Dalkeith One and the many community facilities it offers for everyone in the town centre.

The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 10am on Saturday, May 11 with St David’s brass band on hand to provide some fitting ceremonial music.

Everyone will then be welcomed for the AGM and open day when, along with showcasing the town centre community facilities, those involved will be providing traditional fairground games and activities.

Douglas Strachan, chair of One Dalkeith, said everyone had been on “quite a journey” since its inception in 2015 to the gala opening.

He said: “The organisation was created when people from all parts of Dalkeith came together with a shared vision for community facilities in the town centre. Numerous community conversations explored the vision and aims of the organisation and we explored options for bringing these to life, providing community-building activities along the way.

"The toughest few years then followed, as a smaller number of dedicated volunteers focused on a business plan and refurbishment programme for 21 Eskdaill Court.

"As each phase of the refurbishment has been completed, we have been able to provide community facilities, such as a training kitchen and DIY workshop, and support local businesses with incubator units and a co-working space.

"Most recently, we were delighted to finish the Circle theatre and launch our social enterprise, The Corner Shop Collective, which has been incredibly well received."
