Over 100 speed cameras are to be turned off– including 24 in Edinburgh and the Lothians

-

Actually employ enough police/traffic officers and you might see a change in driving habits. I see a mobile camera can in Fife regularly. Now I admit the A92 has its problems with speeding drivers, but the vans often sit in the straights of the dual carriageway where its not particularly an accident blackspot. What's the point?

Steven Macfarlane

Come spend a day with a driving school and you'll see just how shocking driver behaviour is in Edinburgh.

Paul Mcphail

It's not because they are getting turned off, it’s because all the speed cameras that are not being used are set at 30mph and Edinburgh Council/Scottish Government has reduced the speed to 20mph. So cameras now become obsolete and the cameras that are being made redundant are the non-digital ones that can't be adapted to 20mph. These will eventually be replaced by the newer model cameras that have multiple functions - speeding, road tax, insurance, MOT, use of mobiles when driving, etc.

William White

There’s never been an actual speed camera on the A70 at Balerno, it’s an occasional van parked beside the road.

Lesley Maciver Burt

The A68 all the way to Jedburgh off. Road can be manic!

Julia Brown

No point in them when it’s a struggle to drive more than 20 in most places! I doubt they’ve caught anyone speeding for years.

Mark Winters

Maybe they want to install them at traffic lights and make ££££'s from all the light jumpers.

Amanda Gillie

Driver behaviour only at the cameras as they slow down for them then speed up again.

John Dobosz

Worst idea ever. We got ours in Aberdeen turned off, no speed reductions but the accident rate has increased since there are now people doing 50 in a 30 on a dual carriageway. Police need to get on top of it or the government as there is going to be a massive sharp rise in collisions and fatalities.

Paul Dodds

But I bet there’s the odd sneaky one, probably at the foot of a hill, ready to catch you out.

Russell Benton

That will just encourage drivers to speed again.

June Ketchen

The revenue generated from parking tickets and speeding tickets should be invested in making the roads better and more importantly safer, the figures should be published each quarter. The money raised now is a stealth tax that disappears into the local authority’s black hole.

Craig Lamb

You can't go more than 20mph on most of the roads because of potholes!

Leigh Kinnaird

Move them to the cycle lanes.

Bill Close

What they should have said Is the potholes are doing a better job at reducing speeding.

Appy Dev

I like how they call them 'safety cameras' when in actual fact they are revenue generators.

Alistair Reese

So they can add ULEZ?
