Edinburgh Low Emission Zone: Road changes to help drivers whose cars are excluded
I love my days off when I don’t have to drive into town. I would avoid it - the congestion alone is enough. Evelyn Kenny
St John Street, the little dead end road from Holyrood Road towards Royal Mile has an LEZ sign at its entrance. How much do each of these signs and cameras cost?
Andrina Inglis
So quite a few newer cars will be unable to drive in these zones, but I can buy a classic five-litre Ford Mustang or similar and drive it through Edinburgh as it’s a classic car. Time to get the old boy out of the garage.
Sam McIntosh
I’ve got a diesel hybrid, £0 road tax because it is zero emissions. I can’t drive in Edinburgh or Glasgow, how does that work?
Moira Brownhill
Wee Patrick Harvie will be doing a victory lap up the Royal Mile.
Keith Young
All LEZs in Scotland should be scrapped. All pollution levels in all the cities that have it are far lower than they need to be to warrant the LEZ.
Allan Snr Cater
We have to enter for work and our diesel van is six months too old! it’s a great van and we don’t really need a new one but now will have to buy one or lose the work which we can’t afford to do.
Leonie Fraser
The traffic will simply move more slowly, increasing CO2 emissions in the surrounding streets. Where is the logic in that? That's not reducing, that's shifting. It doesn't solve the problem, but create new ones, including making life for the locals harder!
Marta Isibor
Just wait until work repairs need to be done, the place will fall into disrepair. Edinburgh is now a mini-London and cares not for the locals but only for tourists and students.
Alexander Taylor
Soon it won’t matter what car you have, they’re closing most of the roads to cars anyway.
Michael Nicholson
They are going to kill off the rest of the shops in town. Normal working people will get penalised, just look at the effects it’s having on Glasgow. But as usual it’s the few who think they know best that sit in their ivory towers with huge salaries and expense accounts that we pay for.
Jimmy Nelson
It’ll be carnage, take a wrong turn and you’re basically getting a fine! Get rid of these useless bus lanes and that’ll keep traffic moving, which in turn reduces pollution. Traffic at a standstill again at rush hour today and no buses in the bus lane for most of the time. Some (not all) of these council policies just don’t make sense.
Gordon Thomson
Congestion charge soon to follow!

RIP Edinburgh city centre businesses.
Robert Crosbie
Criminal that anyone with an older car that is all they can afford is banned from using these roads!
Thomas Mcilwraith
Just checked to see how my 19 year old Audi S4 (4.2lt V8 petrol) car stacks up – apparently it’s absolutely fine.
Chris Kirkland
I'm avoiding Edinburgh city centre entirely.
