Group behind new Edinburgh Arena confident of approval

-

Got everything crossed for this! It's a no-brainer really as AEG plus sponsors would be stumping up the cash to build it. The 8500-capacity is fine as it would offer an alternative to bands who cannot fill The Hydro. For once, Edinburgh Council, please make the right decision. They are an industry giant and know what they are doing, let them get on with it. Edinburgh is the only major European capital city without a purpose-built indoor arena, let's do this!

Shame all the mainstream, amazing music stopped being made three decades ago. Still, I would like to see a Fred Dibnah documentary in there. Stephen Christie

Having no car park will cut off many possible attendees who live outwith Edinburgh. Try getting a train back to Armadale - last one 23.08. Jimmy Bat Young

Council needs to improve the roads first to make them fit and proper as they are used constantly every day, before building this wowowowow building that is only opening its doors every few days. Graeme Lofty Stewart

Fingers crossed, Edinburgh needs this. This is a private company project, this is a free win for the city using basically waste ground at a transport interchange with hotels in situ. This could really not be a better scenario.

Mike Clark

Yes please! I can get the train straight there from Airdrie! Barry Po

Nice idea but much too small for most of the bands that play the Hydro.

Murray Dippie

This should be approved. Sorely needed in the Capital. Ben Fawcett

Hermiston Gate is a traffic nightmare. Crash on bypass last week, traffic tailed back to Livi.

Allan C Docherty

Will need massive upgrade to the appalling A720/Gogar junction - total farce of a road. Looks like something after a nuclear holocaust. Degraded surface, cats eyes in the middle of decaying tarmac lanes, overgrown shoulders, damaged and missing road signs, utterly inadequate grade separated junctions. God help us if 8500 folk descend on it for an event! Typical Edinburgh.

Look at the road network through Glasgow. Multi-lane overpasses, underpasses and still improving it now. No roundabouts or traffic lights on the M8, M74, M77, M73 or M80… and Edinburgh has no motorway at Edinburgh Park! Neil Innes

The fact that a venue of this size is so badly needed in Edinburgh, plus it’s being built in exactly the right area of the city and would enhance the chances of bigger acts being tempted to the city all leads me to the conclusion that the Clowncil will do its normal bang up job and refuse planning permission due to a rare mushroom being found or some eco idiot once saw an albino hedgehog there! Derek Hall

No super star is going to play there. They will still go to Glasgow.

Clay Ton

Tours won't do both Edinburgh and Glasgow. It's same with Leeds and Sheffield as they are a similar distance apart. Leeds gets the bigger tours and very rarely does Sheffield get used. Edinburgh is for promoters to attract bands that can't fill The Hydro, not as a second Scottish tour date

Michael Porteous

Hope it turns out better than the Co-op Arena!
