No apologies for another Fringe extravaganza

- Karen Koren of the Gilded Balloon

It’s an exciting time at Gilded Balloon as we have officially unveiled our full Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme for 2024.

We are hosting just over 130 shows in total this year, and while there may be a slight reduction in terms of quantity of venue, with Teviot Row House being closed for refurbishment, the quality of shows is still spectacular.

A particular highlight of mine, and one I am very proud to be producing, is brand new comedy play Chemo Savvy.

The show is inspired by the late, great Andy Gray and his battle with leukemia and stars Jordan Young, Gail Watson, and of course his partner in crime Grant Stott.

I was at an early read through of the script last week and it really is something special: a very emotional journey with plenty of laughs throughout.

Having produced Grant and Andy’s shows for many years at the Fringe, it seemed only right for us to carry on Andy’s idea and stage it at the Gilded Balloon.

I can’t wait for audiences to see this magnificent show which is both heartfelt and hilarious in equal measure.

Other shows we’ve announced include the return of Jack Docherty as Scotland’s favourite cop in ‘The Chief – No Apologies’. The BAFTA-winning star of Scot Squad and cult classic Absolutely, returns to the Fringe looking back on his career righting wrongs, crushing crime, battling bams and never, ever apologising!

‘Docherty's mighty presence fills the room' (ThreeWeeks). 'A hugely talented comic performer' (Sunday Times) were just some of the reviews. The show runs from 2-15 August and tickets are £16.50 - £17.50.

A brand new hour from Paul Black, TikTok star Kim Blythe’s Fringe debut and award-winning podcast The Guilty Feminist.

For Scots music enthusiasts there’s a trip down Scottish music history with members of Del Amitri, Orange Juice and The Bluebells in Broadside Ballads.

There’s UK’s leading political podcast The Political Party with Matt Forde plus comedy combined with the city’s best street food at Edinburgh Comedy Social.

This is, of course, only a small teaser of the full programme, which is filled to the brim with comedy, theatre, music, children’s shows, magic and more.

Our wonderful Pals in Pink will welcome audiences from around the world across 11 venues in our fabulously pink hubs at Patter House and the National Museum of Scotland, where audiences can expect the very best shows across an array of genres, the most instagrammable bars at the Fringe, and Fringe magic by the bucket load.
