Police hold day of action on illegal e-bikes and e-scooters

-

Not before time, it’s a nightmare, they just come out of nowhere

Marie Glen

It will take serious incident before the authorities take a stance. The delivery companies must take some responsibility with uneducated cyclists, to protect them and pedestrians/road users Pat Curran

Wonder how many of those caught were fast food delivery riders?

Alex Monaghan

I just about got hit by an e-scooter a few months ago in Great Junction Street, there was a police car over the road so I went over to ask them what are they going to do about it, they shrugged their shoulders and said what would you like us to do about it. My answer was arrest them & they said we have more pressing things to do, to which I replied it looks like it, parked up doing nothing, they arrested me for breach of the peace. They then dropped the charges. To me This is basically a publicity stunt Stephen Bell

Passed a Police Scotland traffic car on Thursday at Lugton Brae outside Dalkeith, e-scooter on the pavement going uphill with the person on it on the phone. Police officers totally ignored it Douglas Gordon

The police have the power to take away the e-scooters and e-motor bikes, but not the electric assisted bikes with peddles. But I bet they will do nothing as per usual

Brian Davies

Electric assisted bikes are not illegal to use though, the other two are

Ally Preston

The police should have the power to seize any bike even a pedal bike if the cyclist has used it to break the law David Nisbet

Don’t for the life of me understand what all the fuss is about, e-scooters are legal in most European countries but as per usual outdated UK. E-bikes are in my opinion different as I’ve seen these overtake cars and pulling out from nowhere. My point being scooters are ok but e-bikes not

Neil Cunningham

They need to do this at

Newington it’s a nightmare trying to cross the road and walk along the pavements Grahame Underhill

Not enough police and restricted in what they are allowed to do

Michael Nicholson

About time they did this. It’s a free for all out there and it’s about time we started to look at all on the roads with the same gusto as car drivers. Today, outside Aldi on Gilmerton Road, I witnessed a crash where a cyclist T-boned a car. Car drivers fault for sure, but I question the bollard lanes and the part they played, also the cyclist might have wished he had hi-viz, or blinking lights and for sure he’d wish he had a helmet on instead of his full sized bluetooth headphones! Tom MacDonald

If they’re illegal on the streets why not just ban shops from selling them, let’s face it how many that own them have private land to ride them on Sean Henderson

Unregistered electric scooters and non-compliant electric bikes should not be used on public paths or roads, only on private land with the owner’s permission

Julie Starr

Keep those contraptions off the FOOTpaths!
