Q. Please tell us a little about the story of Bang & Olufsen? A.

Bang & Olufsen was founded in 1925 by Peter Bang & Svend Olufsen. Their venture started in a room at Svend’s parents’ home in Denmark and was funded by the sale of chicken eggs from the family farm. The first mass produced Bang & Olufsen product was the Eliminator, which enabled the battery powered radios of the day to at last be connected to mains power.

Q. How long has the shop been in Norwich and how has it developed? A.

The Bang & Olufsen of Norwich showroom has been in its current location since 1999. During this period it has been run under the direct ownership of Bang & Olufsen as well as under franchise. In February, it was once again acquired as a franchise by dealer principal Robert Smith, who also runs a very successful Bang & Olufsen showroom in Colchester.

Q. Bang & Olufsen has combined customer care and cutting edge technology for almost 100 years – can you tell us what customers can expect from the Norfolk store today? A.

At Bang & Olufsen in Norwich we strive to offer outstanding customer service. The products we provide are among the best in the world and the people that choose to own them deserve the best possible service. From an initial visit to our newly refurbished showroom to a personalised home demonstration and final installation, we offer a “one stop” solution for our clients’ audio, visual and multi-room requirements. We really like to get to know our clients and even get asked to join them for dinner after a system has been installed, which is a great privilege.

The way we listen to music has changed so much in recent years - what are the biggest challenges in listening technology and how is the company rising to them? A.

The biggest challenge is actually getting to the music in the first place. Most people will have their music on a smartphone or tablet, and the problem is by the time you have answered that missed call, typed an email and sent a text, you never really get to the music. We have overcome this with the amazing BeoSound Moment - a digital music player that is designed to take you straight to your music, with no distractions, by simply touching one button. It will even learn your listening habits and will always play the music to suit your mood, and of course it offers the ultimate sound performance.

Q. So Emanuel, what is the Bang & Olufsen “Big Idea” for taking forward how we enjoy technology for the future? A.

Wireless Multiroom is the latest system from Bang & Olufsen. It enables everyone to enjoy fantastic sound anywhere around the home, wirelessly

Wireless Multiroom is the latest system from Bang & Olufsen. It enables everyone to enjoy fantastic sound anywhere around the home, wirelessly. You simply touch the loudspeaker and it will “join” your Bang & Olufsen music system to play the same music. It is also possible to listen to different tracks in different rooms. We also offer whole house High Definition video distribution and, for when you are on the move, a complete range of headphones and wireless speakers so you never need to compromise sound performance.
