Looking for a little more space in your home? An orangery or conservatory might be just what you need.

EDP Norfolk - - Interview -

Come rain or shine, conservatories provide a relaxing space to sit back and enjoy some quiet time. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to take in the views, a new dining room or to extend your kitchen, Taverham Conservatories and Windows has a variety of solutions to choose from.

Started in 1985 by David Collier, the family-run business is now in the hands of his son Rob Collier and offers a range of home improvements including doors, windows, extensions, orangeries and conservatories.

“An orangery provides a year-round room,” says the company’s marketing manager Nick Sutton. “There’s more insulation and brick work but you still get the natural light.

“They make great playrooms, dining rooms, office spaces or art studios.”

With a showroom at Taverham Garden Centre, the company has a skilled team of fitters and builders who will take care of all the details including any flooring and tiling that needs to be done, and will leave everything ready for the decorators so you can take your time putting the finishing touches to your new space.

Inside the showroom, there is a selection of conservatories, samples, roof types and finishes to give you a taste of what’s on offer, however all the orangeries are made to measure and will be made bespoke for your home.

“We can do different shapes and styles and we also do ones that wrap around the side and back of the house – whatever suits the customer,” says Nick.

“You won’t normally need planning permission but if you do, we have our own architect who we can send round so the customer doesn’t need to worry.”

If you want to run through some ideas, a design consultant will come out and draw up some options with you.

“We have a strict, no-pressure sales attitude. It’s very much, have a chat, get a feel and then we leave the customer to see if they want to book something in,” says Nick.

If you decide to go ahead, a surveyor with more than 30 years’ experience will come round and get accurate measurements and specifications for the job. And when work starts, you don’t need to be at home either. “We just need access and then we can crack on with it, hassle free,” says Nick. “If we come across any problems while the job is going on, we notify the customer first and then offer them a range of solutions.”

With quality at the top of the agenda, each orangery and conservatory comes with a 10 year guarantee.

“For us it’s all about customer satisfaction. If the customer is satisfied, we know we’ve done our job properly,” says Nick.
