In Your Bag
What’s in your handbag? Interior designer Collette Hanlon’s bag combines beauty must haves with tool box essentials
Collette Hanlon of Home Stagers reveals her secrets
SHE SPENDS her days transforming properties into stunning, desirable dream homes – but, says Collette Hanlon who runs Home Stagers in Norwich, her job isn’t always as glamorous as it sounds.
“My handbag is less glamour, more toolkit. It also weighs a ton – last week it was a whopping 4kg,” she laughs. “I am not sure whether I should admit to this but I also have my own ‘handbag hammer’ which is great for putting up art”.
Collette started out as a franchisee of Home Stagers, before taking over the company with her business partner. For the past year, she has been the sole owner.
“I went to art college, so had a creative background, and had worked as a display manager at Debenhams for 18 years. My husband and I had also dabbled in property developing so I think all these things came together and I decided to retrain as an interior designer.”
Home Stagers works closely with property developers, homeowners and estate agents to turn empty properties into stunning show homes ready for the market.
“I love my job as no two days are the same. I have just been working on a Georgian property in Suffolk, while also working on two mews houses in Belgravia in London. But I also do a lot of properties in north Norfolk, in particular coastal houses and barn conversions. Often I am creating an interior look for a property which is being renovated and readied for sale which will be marketed not just locally but globally.”
