PLANT OF THE MONTH

Corylopsis Pauciflora

This slow growing mediumsized deciduous shrub is prized for its clusters of delicate sweetly scented primrose yellow flowers which appear on bare stems in early spring and last for several weeks, putting on a wonderful display. The leaves unfurl as the flowers start to fade; flushed bronze at first maturing to a bright green, then in autumn they turn a warm yellow before leaf fall. Corylopsis thrive in sun or partial shade planted in moist but well drained acidic soil rich in organic matter, they dislike waterlogging so poorly drained soil should be improved before planting.
