Hur­rah for Nor­folk!

It’s time to cel­e­brate our glo­ri­ous county, and although every day is Nor­folk Day at EDP Nor­folk mag­a­zine, here are 10 spe­cial events to give a flavour of the new fes­ti­val of all things Nor­folk

EDP Norfolk - - Norfolk Day -

This month is the first ever Nor­folk Day – a chance to shout about all things that are great about our county, to cel­e­brate what makes it spe­cial and to dis­cover ex­cit­ing new things to do and places to visit. On July 27, there will be a host of events mark­ing the oc­ca­sion right across the county, from vil­lage fetes and fairs to ex­hi­bi­tions, talks and ac­tiv­i­ties in land­mark build­ings and spe­cial set­tings.There will lots of op­por­tu­ni­ties to eat our de­li­cious pro­duce, get a taste for some of the ac­tiv­i­ties and events tak­ing place across the county and ex­plore our glo­ri­ous land­scape. Cel­e­brate Nor­folk Day at the Par­ish in Bloom flower fes­ti­val at Less­ing­ham Church on Nor­folk Day it­self and Fri­day and Satur­day July 28-29.

See beaches, lifeboats, light­houses and farm­ing cel­e­brated in flow­ers. The fes­ti­val also fea­tures lo­cal artists and mak­ers. Home­made cakes and re­fresh­ments avail­able at the vil­lage hall.

En­try is free but do­na­tions wel­come.

The Mu­seum of the

Broads at Stal­ham is cel­e­brat­ing Nor­folk Day with free en­try for all, plus trips on its Vic­to­rian steam­boat (charges ap­ply) from 10am to 4pm. 01692 581681. mu­se­u­mofthe­broads.org.uk

Hare off to a free fam­ily fun day at Whitling­ham

Coun­try Park, near Nor­wich, from 11am to 3pm, in­clud­ing an at­tempt at cre­at­ing a world record for dress­ing up as hares, 1-2pm. Full de­tails of the To­tally Broads Day at south­nor­folk.gov.uk

WI mem­bers across the county will be get­ting into the Nor­folk Day spirit by deck­ing vil­lages with bunting, host­ing cof­fee morn­ings and cake af­ter­noons and (in Sprow­ston) hid­ing painted gar­den rocks around the area, work­ing with the Nor­folk Rocks UK group. At Er­p­ing­ham with Calthorpe Vil­lage Hall, WI mem­bers will be show­ing the group’s project to cre­ate a tex­tile map of the vil­lage and in Nor­wich vis­i­tors can en­joy a free slice of cake with the A Slice of Nor­folk WI Life event at the Nor­folk WI head­quar­ters on All Saints Green, Nor­wich, 10.30am-3pm.

Gig in the Park at Diss is a tal­ent com­pe­ti­tion for young per­form­ers run­ning over Nor­folk Day and the week­end. gig-in-the-park.co.uk

Join a fam­ily friendly

story walk at seven lo­ca­tions across the county. The li­braries at Gay­wood, Cromer, North Wal­sham, Great Yar­mouth, Har­leston, Tuckswood and Nor­wich Fo­rum are lead­ing 90 minute walks aimed at chil­dren aged three to seven. All chil­dren must be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult and the story walks will take place what­ever the weather – so bring wellies, sun­hat etc as ap­pro­pri­ate.

Rock up at Park Bri­tan­nia cafe in Nor­wich’s Water­loo Park for a retro 1950s-themed fete.

En­joy a free fam­ily fun

day fea­tur­ing a dog show, minia­ture ther­apy don­keys, face paint­ing and arts and crafts at Gold Park, Mun­des­ley, noon-4pm.

Nor­folk food and drink fes­ti­val Pork­stock has a spe­cial pop-up for Nor­folk Day. Pork­stock Pop-Up at House of Fraser at intu Chapelfiel­d, 9am-7pm, in­cludes more than 20 lo­cal food and drink pro­duc­ers. pork­stock.co.uk.
