Out of office
Gareth Pendleton is managing director of Norwich Bathrooms and Kitchens, known as NBK. With three showrooms and a specialist design and installation team, the longstanding independent local business offers inspiration, advice and expert fitting services a
How did you come to work in the industry and NBK?
I’ve been in the industry for around 20 years, starting as a fitter and then setting up my first showroom in 2006.
What are your plans for NBK over the next couple of years?
To maintain stability, to grow the new trade arm of the business, and to also ensure customer service and installation standards are continually exceded.
What are the biggest challenges running the business?
Meeting customer expectations and exceeding them keeps NBK at the forefront of the market place. Every business has its challenges; the mark of the company is how you deal with them. By taking the view that our customers are the most valuable part of the business we are able to be transparent as a company and can continue to grow.
Tell us what you enjoy most about the job
Watching the team grow and taking on new members of staff and seeing them develop is enjoyable. NBK has a great team, with a nice family feel. Without the team and the great teamwork, we would not be the same company.
What do you like to do to relax?
I enjoy spending time with my family, and time at home is precious. I like the occasional book and a trip to the coast is always good fun.
What is your exercise of choice?
Ah, hum, exercise, yes well! I used to enjoy running, when I say enjoy, I enjoyed the health benefits. Exercise now is usually dog walking related, or cycling around the lanes where I live with my family.
Can you remember your first car?
Most definitely. Being a fan of all things transport related, I can remember all of the cars I have owned. I was that keen to start driving, that on my 17th birthday (12.01am), I was out with my parents driving their car!
If you were on a desert island, what would be your luxury item or treat?
Can it be my wife and son? If not, then how about French chef Raymond Blanc cooking in a kitchen with a fully stocked larder full of fine food and wine!
What’s your favourite part of Norfolk?
I have seen most parts of Norfolk on my travels and many lovely places there are too. But the picturesque north Norfolk coast, and in particular Blakeney, really is hard to beat on a lovely summer’s day.
