Kirstead Hall, Brooke
• In a nutshell: Grade II* listed Elizabethan hall now set in four acres. Built 1560s by family of Thomas Godsalve, steward to Henry VIII and wealthy enough to have his portrait painted by Holbein. Remodelled (1600) by Sir Thomas Spooner. Divorced from farm in 1970s.
• Must-sees: Secondary parlour with wonky windows from 1614 drought; Great Hall; interior of dovecote. Dermot’s furniture conservation workshop; family paintings and scrapbooks.
