The Chapel Conversion
By Collette Hanlon from Home Stagers
We are currently engaged on a very interesting site in Essex, it is a combination of Grade II listed buildings and new builds. It is not unusual these days to find a diverse range of properties within one development site. A range of architectural styles, house sizes, and price ranges aimed at different target markets. Personally, I am really interested in conversions, I love the juxtaposition of new with the original character and structure. Over the years we have been lucky enough to work on some really unique properties, which include a variety of industrial building conversions with exposed structural beams and wonderfully large metal windows. The first project we have just completed on this site is the Chapel conversion, which sits alongside an absolutely stunning early Victorian Tea factory. These historical buildings form a significant part of the history of the town and it is wonderful to see them sympathetically preserved and given a new purpose.
The Chapel has been divided into a pair of two bedroom houses, with the first floor given over to a large open plan kitchen and living space, which incorporates the stunning original architectural oak roof structure. Our brief from our clients for the interior design of the Chapel was to create a quirky contemporary style that would sit comfortably with the character of the building. We choose a monochrome palette with an industrial feel that would complement the detail of the heavy iron work in the exposed trusses. The target market is for a young professional couple who are design savvy. We also designed a stunning statement headboard for the smaller bedroom which was made for us in here Norwich by our talented upholsterer.
It is inevitable therefore that some developers are keen to feature more than one show home within their marketing campaign, so our next property on this site is a large five bedroom new build which should be ready by the end of the month. We are also currently working on an exciting warehouse apartment in London, the most amazing farm building conversion in Essex, and a delightful Victorian cottage at Thornham with a stunning view.
