Break­fast used to be the by­word for a big fry-up of eggs, ba­con, sausages and all the usual sus­pects, but nowa­days al­ter­na­tives from smashed avo­cado to pump­kin-spiced por­ridge have be­come the rage.

The Old Rock Shop Bistro in Cromer has made a virtue of be­ing fry-up free and has em­braced the new wave.

“There’s not a full English in sight.” says owner Sam Grout. “We do spe­cials, from waf­fles and pan­cakes to avo­cado smash, and our clas­sic Eggs Bene­dict and Croque Madam.” (That’s a Croque Mon­sieur with an egg on top, in case you’re won­der­ing.) the­ol­drock­shop­
