The Swan, Loddon

We’re not veg­e­tar­ian at EDP Nor­folk mag­a­zine, but we do un­der­stand that good things can be done in the kitchen with­out the ad­di­tion of meat or fish. We re­cently put this to the test at The Swan in Loddon when the pub held a five-course veg­e­tar­ian tast­ing evening. Chef Ja­son Wright’s menu opened with po­tato risotto and a dainty smoked quail’s egg. Salt-baked cele­riac fol­lowed, then a wild mush­room con­sommé, all flavours of au­tumn and clear as a bell. Smoked aubergine po­lenta with goat curd and pick­led beet­root fin­ished the savoury cour­ses and an ex­quis­ite lemon mouse with pome­gran­ate and hazel­nut fin­ished the evening.

It was a fine ex­am­ple of what can be cre­ated with some imag­i­na­tion. If they have an­other veg­gie evening I can thor­oughly rec­om­mend it.
