Cook­ing fat: Cooked fat from Sun­day roasts and Christ­mas din­ners merges with meat juices dur­ing cook­ing. This com­bi­na­tion can stick to bird’s feath­ers and stop them be­ing water­proof.

Des­ic­cated co­conut: This swells up in­side birds and makes them very un­well.
