“No-one serves the na­tion’s food, drink and hos­pi­tal­ity sec­tor more com­pletely, more en­thu­si­as­ti­cally and with greater pas­sion than Nor­folk’s in­dus­try cham­pi­ons. The county’s army of grow­ers, har­vesters, man­u­fac­tur­ers, in­no­va­tors, ed­u­ca­tors, mar­keters, cooks, chefs and servers of food and drink makes a con­tri­bu­tion that is un­sur­passed any­where in the UK. It would be a trav­esty if the in­di­vid­u­als in the front line were sim­ply la­belled as “un­sung he­roes.”

The con­tri­bu­tion of peo­ple who blaze trails in Nor­folk’s cut­ting-edge food and drink in­dus­try must be given the fan­fare it de­serves. So a team of ex­pert judges is tasked to search out and hon­our an in­di­vid­ual who sets stan­dards to which oth­ers as­pire. Past win­ners of The Out­stand­ing Achieve­ment Award in­clude Delia Smith, TV host and cook­book writer; John Davies, Cromer crab fish­er­man, Nick Mills, manag­ing direc­tor of Brasted’s; Chris Coubrough, Fly­ing Kiwi celebrity chef; Steve Thorpe, for­mer head of the Ho­tel School at City Col­lege Nor­wich; Richard Hughes, now chef/ direc­tor at The As­sem­bly House, Nor­wich.”
