PLANT OF THE MONTH
Commalina tuberosa Coelestis group This attractive little tuberous perennial from Mexico is one of the delights of the summer border. It has small but vivid blue flowers which are unrivalled for colour and are carried throughout the summer into early autumn. It’s a hardy perennial but thrives in a warm, sunny position in any reasonably well-drained soil soon reseeding, if allowed, making up a good clump. In cold areas the plants can be given a mulch to give the tubers a little added winter protection.
