A leap forward
For new homes in Watton
The latest release of new homes at a hugely popular site in Watton has coincided with the announcement that the Norfolk-based house builder behind the development has commissioned an eye-catching piece of public art for the site – emphasising the attractive streetscape and growing community feel which is already developing there.
Hare’s Green at Watton Green was launched less than a year ago by Abel Homes, which is itself based in the town. The family-owned firm is building 98 energy-efficient family homes, complete with the top ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency and include features such as photo-voltaic solar panels, underfloor heating, triple glazing and high levels of insulation, as well as fibre broadband direct to each home.
More than ten years ago Abel Homes committed to commissioning a piece of public artwork from a local artist for each of the sites where it builds new homes, to act as a focal point for each new community.
In June the firm announced that it had commissioned the north Norfolkbased
Holkham Forge Partnership to create a six foot high dancing hare sculpture to be installed at Hare’s Green. The hare is an integral part of local folklore, with the town sign depicting a hare jumping over a barrel – ‘wat’ was the local dialect name for hare, and ‘ton’ for barrel.
The artwork will be placed on one of the five public green spaces which form part of the new community – spaces which are designed to create a sense of space and community for those moving onto the site.
The latest release of new homes at Hare’s Green means there is a variety of house types now available, including two-, three- and four bedroom houses, and three-bedroom bungalows. Prices range from £175,000 for a two-bedroom house with garage, up to £335,000 for a detached four-bedroom home with double garage.
• The show home at Hare’s Green is open from Thursday to Monday, 10am-4pm; viewings can be arranged at other times by appointment. For more details of the new homes, visit www.abelhomes.co.uk.
