The Trustees of Sapi­en­tia Ed­u­ca­tion Trust are de­lighted to have been given ap­proval by the De­part­ment for Ed­u­ca­tion to progress their plans to open a pur­pose built pri­mary school of­fer­ing both day and board­ing places the site of Wymondham Col­lege (sub­ject to plan­ning and con­sul­ta­tion).

Wymondham Col­lege is the largest state board­ing school in the UK with a well es­tab­lished rep­u­ta­tion for ex­cel­lence in­clud­ing a strong track record of Oxbridge and Rus­sell Group en­tries.

Sapi­en­tia Ed­u­ca­tion Trust was born out of Wymondham Col­lege where Jonathan Tay­lor was the Prin­ci­pal and he is now CEO of the Trust. Its vi­sion is to bring like minded schools to­gether to pro­vide World Class ed­u­ca­tion lo­cally. It is one of the fastest grow­ing trusts na­tion­ally with 13 schools across Nor­folk and Suf­folk.

Mr Tay­lor says, “Wymondham Col­lege Prep School will of­fer unique state pro­vi­sion; it will not only pro­vide the high­est qual­ity day places for lo­cal chil­dren but much needed, af­ford­able pri­mary board­ing places in our brand-new board­ing house de­signed specif­i­cally to meet

the needs of younger board­ers.”

Wymondham Col­lege Prep School will open to Re­cep­tion age pupils in Septem­ber 2020 for 60 pupils. When it is full it will of­fer 452 places in­clud­ing 32 board­ing places for pupils in Y5 and Y6. Board­ing pro­vi­sion opens for Y5 pupils in Septem­ber 2021.

Peter Rout, Chair of Sapi­en­tia Ed­u­ca­tion Trust, ex­plained that this is a log­i­cal ex­pan­sion of what the Trust al­ready of­fers at Wymondham Col­lege. He said ‘Our new school will en­able us to pro­vide an all age ed­u­ca­tion on the one site; it en­ables us to ex­tend the well-es­tab­lished cul­ture of high aca­demic ex­pec­ta­tions with ex­ten­sive ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties to the pri­mary phase. Our aim is to en­able our pupils to be­come well rounded, suc­cess­ful young peo­ple ready to take their place in the world’

Wymondham Col­lege Prep School will be co-lo­cated on the site of Wymondham Col­lege (sub­ject to plan­ning and con­sul­ta­tion) in or­der to take full ad­van­tage of the ex­per­tise of the Col­lege but it will have its own Head­teacher, lead­er­ship team and gov­ern­ing body. Whilst the two schools are sep­a­rate they are united by the Trust’s vi­sion and values that un­der­pin the cul­ture and ethos on the one Cam­pus. Wymondham Col­lege Prep School pupils will have pri­or­ity sta­tus for places at Wymondham Col­lege.

The Trust is de­lighted have ap­pointed Mr Alex Wil­son cur­rently Prin­ci­pal Deputy Head of the Lower School at Nor­wich School as the Head­teacher Des­ig­nate of Wymondham Col­lege Prep School.

Mr Tay­lor said “We are de­lighted to have se­cured Alex’s ap­point­ment from a very strong and com­pet­i­tive field. Alex brings a clear un­der­stand­ing of the very high stan­dards and ex­pec­ta­tions that we have of our pupils and has the skills to lead a world class Prep School”

Mr Wil­son said “It is a tremen­dous hon­our and priv­i­lege to have been cho­sen to found and lead the Wymondham Col­lege Prep School; a school that will be built on the al­ready ex­cel­lent foun­da­tions of the Sapi­en­tia Ed­u­ca­tion Trust and Wymondham Col­lege.”

The Prep School will have a strong sense of iden­tity, ca­ma­raderie, em­pa­thy and as­pi­ra­tion. The chil­dren will ben­e­fit from a high­qual­ity ed­u­ca­tion that em­braces a rich ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar pro­vi­sion.

The Prep will en­sure that the per­sonal and aca­demic devel­op­ment of the child is at the core of our pro­vi­sion.
