Wymondham College Prep School
The Trustees of Sapientia Education Trust are delighted to have been given approval by the Department for Education to progress their plans to open a purpose built primary school offering both day and boarding places the site of Wymondham College (subject to planning and consultation).
Wymondham College is the largest state boarding school in the UK with a well established reputation for excellence including a strong track record of Oxbridge and Russell Group entries.
Sapientia Education Trust was born out of Wymondham College where Jonathan Taylor was the Principal and he is now CEO of the Trust. Its vision is to bring like minded schools together to provide World Class education locally. It is one of the fastest growing trusts nationally with 13 schools across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Mr Taylor says, “Wymondham College Prep School will offer unique state provision; it will not only provide the highest quality day places for local children but much needed, affordable primary boarding places in our brand-new boarding house designed specifically to meet
the needs of younger boarders.”
Wymondham College Prep School will open to Reception age pupils in September 2020 for 60 pupils. When it is full it will offer 452 places including 32 boarding places for pupils in Y5 and Y6. Boarding provision opens for Y5 pupils in September 2021.
Peter Rout, Chair of Sapientia Education Trust, explained that this is a logical expansion of what the Trust already offers at Wymondham College. He said ‘Our new school will enable us to provide an all age education on the one site; it enables us to extend the well-established culture of high academic expectations with extensive extra-curricular activities to the primary phase. Our aim is to enable our pupils to become well rounded, successful young people ready to take their place in the world’
Wymondham College Prep School will be co-located on the site of Wymondham College (subject to planning and consultation) in order to take full advantage of the expertise of the College but it will have its own Headteacher, leadership team and governing body. Whilst the two schools are separate they are united by the Trust’s vision and values that underpin the culture and ethos on the one Campus. Wymondham College Prep School pupils will have priority status for places at Wymondham College.
The Trust is delighted have appointed Mr Alex Wilson currently Principal Deputy Head of the Lower School at Norwich School as the Headteacher Designate of Wymondham College Prep School.
Mr Taylor said “We are delighted to have secured Alex’s appointment from a very strong and competitive field. Alex brings a clear understanding of the very high standards and expectations that we have of our pupils and has the skills to lead a world class Prep School”
Mr Wilson said “It is a tremendous honour and privilege to have been chosen to found and lead the Wymondham College Prep School; a school that will be built on the already excellent foundations of the Sapientia Education Trust and Wymondham College.”
The Prep School will have a strong sense of identity, camaraderie, empathy and aspiration. The children will benefit from a highquality education that embraces a rich extra-curricular provision.
The Prep will ensure that the personal and academic development of the child is at the core of our provision.
“It is a hugely exciting time and I look forward to sharing this venture with the children, their parents and the community.”
