POP­CORN’S £100K FOR CHAR­ITY

Nor­wich-based pop­u­lar snack brand Met­calfe’s has raised more than £100,000 through pop­corn sales for part­ner char­ity CLIC Sar­gent, the UK’s lead­ing can­cer char­ity for chil­dren and young peo­ple.

Met­calfe’s be­gan sup­port­ing CLIC Sar­gent in 2014 and pledged to raise £30,000 for the char­ity. For each pack of sea salt flavour pop­corn sold, a do­na­tion is made to help the char­ity pro­vide prac­ti­cal, fi­nan­cial and emo­tional sup­port to chil­dren and young peo­ple with can­cer, and their fam­i­lies.

By rais­ing £100,000 for the char­ity, Met­calfe’s has helped fund CLIC Sar­gent so­cial work­ers and Homes from Home for fam­i­lies, mak­ing it pos­si­ble to sup­port young can­cer pa­tients like Anna Stark. At the age of just 20 years, univer­sity stu­dent Anna Stark was first di­ag­nosed with Hodgkin’s lym­phoma in June 2017. Anna said: “Be­ing di­ag­nosed with can­cer made me feel de­fence­less and like what was left of my in­de­pen­dence was be­ing taken away from me. I was fac­ing an un­cer­tain fu­ture and didn’t know what to do next.”

Dur­ing this dif­fi­cult time, Anna re­ceived sup­port from a CLIC Sar­gent so­cial worker. She also be­came a mem­ber of the CLIC Sar­gent Young Per­son Ref­er­ence Group, which gives young peo­ple a chance to meet and pro­vide sup­port to those who have had sim­i­lar ex­pe­ri­ences.

“With­out the group and CLIC Sar­gent, I would’ve been lost dur­ing and after treat­ment. I just want to say thank you to Met­calfe’s, as its fundrais­ing and sup­port has en­abled me to do all the stuff with CLIC Sar­gent, which has made a mas­sive dif­fer­ence to my life. CLIC Sar­gent’s help has sup­ported me in so many ways; I don’t know how I would have been able to move on with­out it.”
