Works by two famous Norfolk painters have been sold by Bonhams in London. The Yacht Basin, Ostend, by Edward Seago went for £18,812 including. premium. The lot came with books and a newspaper clipping. ‘Last week Mr. H.T. Percival assisted Mr. Edward Seago with Capricorn across to the Hook... and thus three boats from Horning are cruising Dutch waterways this week... Broadland is well represented across the water’.
Sir Alfred Munning’s The Woodcutter sold for £60,062 including premium. It was a favourite of Munnings, as he says in his autobiography: ‘The last of these five of 1903 is The Wood-cutter – the best. It is autumn; old Norman is in his smock, clearing a small maple-wood thicket. I enjoyed my work when doing this. The scene was there; the old man posed well for hours; the yellow-starred leaves traced patterns in the October sun. How beautiful it looked!’
