Bakers & Larners of Holt is celebrating an exceptional anniversary this year

It has seen four centuries, nine monarchs and been under the guiding hand of just one family; 2020 marks a special year for Bakers & Larners.

It was back in the reign of King George III that John Baker and his wife moved to Holt, where he started working in the family business of blacksmith and ironmongers.

Fast forward to the year 2020, 250 years later, and this business now trades as the well-known, much respected and much-loved Bakers & Larners department store.

The company has expanded from the small shop in Holt Market Place to a group with three separate divisions; the department store, two Budgens supermarkets and four builders’ merchant branches.

It has the involvement and support of the eighth and ninth generations of the Baker family and the ethos of the business is still very much family-led. Bakers & Larners is looking forward to celebrating 250 years of trading where it can thank all those who have supported the business and share a remarkable journey with customers, staff, both past and present, and the community.

In addition it is keen to raise money for its charity of the year, the East Anglian Children’s Hospice, EACH, while at the same time supporting other small local charities chosen by the Bakers & Larners team.
