Romo was es­tab­lished by Robert Mould in 1902 as a small fur­ni­ture pro­ducer in Not­ting­hamshire. By the 1930s, how­ever, the com­pany’s main fo­cus had shifted to fur­nish­ing fab­rics, and in the 1980s the ad­di­tion of an in-house studio trans­formed Romo into the de­sign-led fab­ric and wall­pa­per brand it is to­day. Still based in Kirkby-in-ash­field, the busi­ness now em­ploys 250 peo­ple in the cre­ation and mar­ket­ing of fur­nish­ing and up­hol­stery fab­rics, wall­cov­er­ings and trim­mings for res­i­den­tial and com­mer­cial in­te­ri­ors. There are six de­sign houses un­der the Romo um­brella: Romo, Black Edi­tion, Mark Alexan­der, Kirkby De­sign, Villa Nova and Zinc Tex­tile.
