‘ BLACK TO WHITE AND BACK AGAIN’ AT LON­DON GLASSBLOWING GALLERY

( 16 SEPTEM­BER– 8 OC­TO­BER) Tucked away in Ber­mond­sey, this venue is cel­e­brat­ing founder Peter Lay­ton’s 80th birth­day and his 40th year of glassblowing in Lon­don with an open-sub­mis­sions ex­hi­bi­tion. It will show­case 55 beau­ti­ful works by es­tab­lished and emerg­ing artists, in­clud­ing Yoshiko Okada ( Danse de Nuit, pic­tured; lon­don­glass­blow­ing.co.uk).

OXO TOWER WHARF ( 17– 25 SEPTEM­BER) The iconic build­ing is a hive of ac­tiv­ity: we’ll be head­ing there to see De­sign­ers­block’s show­case of 100 creatives’ work and home­ware brand De­signed in Colour’s new ‘Bri­tish Colour Stan­dard’ col­lec­tion. The hues for the lat­ter are taken from the 1931 Bri­tish Colour Coun­cil rule­book, cre­ated to reg­u­late shades of uni­forms and flags across the Bri­tish Em­pire (ox­o­tower.co.uk).

WINE AND TYPE TAST­ING WORK­SHOP AT LAITHWAITE’S ( 22 SEPTEM­BER) Imag­ine the study of fonts to be a dry sub­ject? Think again, thanks to a wine-tast­ing-meets-type­face-mas­ter­class in Laithwaite’s ware­house and shop un­der South­wark’s arches. Led by the en­gag­ing Sarah Hyn­d­man – graphic de­signer, TED talker and ex­pert in the psy­chol­ogy of ty­pog­ra­phy – pupils will un-learn the habit of judg­ing a bot­tle by its la­bel. £30 (type­tast­ing.com). ➤
