‘My desert is­land ob­ject is a pes­tle and mor­tar. It’s the one piece of equip­ment that I can’t live with­out, ei­ther at work or at home. I love the coarse ones you buy from Asian su­per­mar­kets that are cut from a gran­ite-like stone. Mar­ble ones look beau­ti­ful but I find them too smooth to be func­tional.’
