30 A SLICE OF HAPPINESS
There are evenings when nothing feeds the soul like a piping hot, seriously cheesy pizza. And lucky Londoners have a plethora of new pizzerias to choose from
FOR A TASTE OF TRADITION The Condurro family have been producing two varieties of paper-thin pizzas – the Margherita and the tomato and anchovy topped Marinara – from L’antica Pizzeria Da Michele’s woodfired oven in downtown Naples since 1870. Now they have crossed the channel and opened a sibling joint in Stoke Newington (@damichelelondon). FOR LOCAL BITES Also freshly arrived from Naples is Quartieri ( bottom right), transposed to Kilburn by the team behind Pizzeria Trianon Vomero (quartieri.co.uk), and cool-but-convivial Pizza Brixton, brought to south London by Cosimo Grasso. A pizzaiolo-cum-joiner, he personally handmade the tables, hung the lights and now crafts the pizzas at the venue with his cheerful co-cooks (pizzabrixton.co.uk). Also look out for Yard Sale (above right), which has opened up in Walthamstow with a fabulously retro diner-inspired interior ( yardsalepizza.com). FOR ITALIAN GLAMOUR Michelin-starred uber-chef Jason Atherton has brought pizza up to his Pollen Street Social standards with new venue Hai Cenato (the Italian for ‘Have you had dinner?’) in Victoria. The suave interior (top) echoes his London Edition restaurant, Berners Tavern, with low lighting and luxe materials. The stars, though, are the sourdough pizzas, accessorised with small plates such as green chilli salsa verde and Cornish squid ( haicenato.co.uk).
