DESIGN DETAIL ‘ NEW MODERN’ SCANDI STYLEFIVE

Homeowner Sofia Wäborg’s top four ways to get the look

-

1 Take inspiration from the local landscape The natural materials, colours and textures in this house – the stone, the Douglas fir, the concrete, even the sand-coloured rug in front of the fireplace – were inspired by the surrounding forest and the beautiful nearby beach. 2 Choose your materials carefully The incredible grain on the white-soaped Douglas fir timber from Danish company Dinesen, used throughout the interior, is no accident. ‘ We hand-picked almost every piece of wood we wanted to use in the house,’ says Sofia. 3 Buy sustainably ‘ We tend to buy most of our furniture via secondhand stores online, such as Lauritz.com,’ explains Sofia. The couple has found many design classics this way – their collection of pre-loved Hans J Wegner pieces adds bags of character to their abode. 4 Keep it simple ‘To create a calm feeling in our home, we felt it was important not to use too many different materials or colours,’ says Sofia. Nothing in the house jars with the serene country location, and the restrained palette creates a sense of rhythm and harmony.
