DOWN TO DULWICH
Join the quiet and leafy south London village’s art trail to discover established and emerging names
Dulwich Picture Gallery is opening an exhibition of the illustrator, graphic designer and printmaker Edward Bawden. Bawden’s work ranges from packaging for Twinings tea to humorous depictions of British holidaymakers and prints of London landmarks ( The Albert Bridge, above), which were perceived as avant-garde in their 20th-century heyday (23 May–9 September; dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk).
Also kicking off is Artists’ Open House, part of the multidisciplinary Dulwich Festival, during which more than 200 local artisans invite visitors into their studios. We’ll be making a beeline for the potters: in particular, the Tulse Hill workshop where Carys Davies creates her moody, natureinspired porcelain (‘Thorn’ pots, below) and the Peckham studio of From The Land – where textile designer Kezia Regan and architect Alastair Mitchell collaborate on concrete vessels (12–20 May; dulwichfestival.co.uk).
