Architecture Eva Jiřičná CBE talks ahead of being honoured at the London Design Festival and we reveal our highlights from the RIBA House of the Year longlist

Few architects would choose bright red for a building’s exterior, but 31/44 Architects is bold enough to make it work. The practice has produced an exquisitely crafted home that elegantly complements its neighbouring yellow and red brick homes. Responding to its awkward site on the end of a terrace, the firm has carved the space into a series of intimately-angled rooms, dotted with glazed courtyards. The exterior’s statement hue is echoed inside, with pigmented concrete walls (3144architects.com).
