The future Life-changing wellbeing technology

Track your health and weight, reduce your stress – meet the connected devices that want to make your life better

-

Technology plays an increasingly interactive role in our homes, controlling everything from lighting to heating, and now it’s got its sights set on improving our health and wellbeing, too. Award-winning Japanese studio Nendo has collaborated with Kakao Corporation, the company behind South Korea’s most popular messaging app, Kakao Talk, to create the ‘Kakao Friends Homekit’. This fleet of connected devices, all controlled by one app, aims to encourage us to engage in our wellbeing by introducing a serious dose of kawaii.

In typical Nendo style, the starting point for the design of every product in the range was very simple: a white bowl. This form has then been topped with a silicon icon that denotes each individual device’s use. The first of the range to be released is the cloud-like ‘Smart Scale’ (£99.99), which will help you track and manage your weight, with friendly feedback. Then, coming soon, there will be an air purifier (with a flower on top), alarm clock (complete with yellow bird), thermometer (recognisable by its water droplets), humidifier (with a purple wisp of vapour) and a table lamp, for which the bowl motif hovers above a cone of illuminated glass.

‘The collection needed to serve as a bridge between digital content and our analogue world,’ explains Nendo. Finding time to look after your wellbeing can be difficult, but these adorable concepts hint at a calmer future. homekit.kakaofriends.com; nendo.jp
