Ochre

Ochre’s designs set the precedent for how traditional craftsmanship can result in modern pieces. Launching at Craft Week is ‘Ochre Wild’, the brand’s first collection of handcrafted rugs, which promise to add a new dimension to its existing ranges. Made from natural fibres and dyes, hand-finished in West Bengal, each yarn absorbs the dye in a unique way, creating unrepeatable weaves. 24 Pimlico Road (ochre.net).

The Odd Chair Company

This Craft Week, The Odd Chair Company will be transporting a wealth of expertise from its northwest England workshops to Belgravia as it demonstrates the woodworking skills that go into its designs. Discover the age-old methods of woodwork, handcarving, French polishing and what it takes to create a sustainable piece of bespoke furniture that lasts forever on 30 April, 10.30am. 45 Pimlico Road (theoddchaircompany.com).

SCP

Since its very beginnings 30 years ago, SCP’s dedication to showcasing emerging British designers and makers has never wavered, supporting names such as Terence Woodgate, Donna Wilson and Reiko Kaneko. More recently, the store has carried pieces by London-based Jochen Holz, a maker known for his colourful incalmo glassware. ‘Improvised gestures’, an exhibition of Holz’s latest pieces, including tableware and one-off objects, will be on display during the week. 57 Pimlico Road (scp.co.uk).

Jamb

A treasure trove of antiquities and replicas, Jamb’s collection of fireplaces, lighting and decorative objects is a striking reminder of Britain’s making heritage. Launching this week is a collaboration between Jamb founder Will Fisher and Stephen Pettifer, founder of Coade. ‘Anatomicals’ is a series of sculptures inspired by Renaissance plaster casts and Greek and Roman art cast from Coade stone. 95-97 Pimlico Road ( jamb.co.uk).

Sarah Myerscough Gallery

This Barnes-based gallery is taking over a townhouse with ‘The Natural Room’ exhibition, which focuses on the innovative use of organic materials. International creatives will present works that aim to shift perceptions around climate change and sustainability by creating objects with substances such as rice straw and waste flowers. 103 Pimlico Road (sarahmyerscough.com).

Cox London

As you might expect from a brand founded by two makers, Cox London’s pieces are a fusion of sculpture and design, and involve a variety of artisanal techniques including forging, casting and gilding. Over Craft Week a new body of work will be revealed in its showroom. Plus, Nicola and Christopher Cox will be joined by antiques dealer and interior designer Max Rollitt on 30 April (see box below)to discuss why craft matters and the need to keep traditional techniques alive. 6-7pm, 194 Ebury Street (coxlondon.com).

Chelsea Textiles

Masters at both replicating antique textiles and creating contemporary designs by celebrated creatives such as Kit Kemp and Neisha Crosland, Chelsea Textiles’ flair for embroidery knows no bounds. In fact, its hand-embroidered fabrics made today match the quality of those produced in the 17th and 18th centuries. The company’s in-house craftspeople will demonstrate the art of hand embroidery in the showroom daily through the week. 40-42 Pimlico Road (chelseatextiles.com).

Carl Hansen & Søn

A haven of Scandi cool, Carl Hansen & Søn will present reissues of late 1950s pieces by functionalist Danish designer Børge Mogensen. There’s also the chance to see the new minimalist lighting collection, ‘MO’ designed by Mads Odgård in the flesh (see more on page 25). Meanwhile, the iconic ‘Wishbone’ chair gets a makeover with a new palette of soft, tonal hues.

Linley

Founder David Linley’s life-long love of cabinetmaking and craftsmanship is apparent from the second you set foot inside this flagship showroom. The brand’s collections cover everything from jewellery boxes to kitchens, with every piece made to the highest quality. Marvel over the intricate art of marquetry on the latest additions to the Linley range and see artist Marie Lenclos painting live in the window throughout Craft Week. 60 Pimlico Road (davidlinley.com).
