BARE-ROOT ROSES TO PLANT NOW

These roses are great value for money. Get them in the ground in winter (avoiding heavy frosts or snow) and they’ll develop strong roots in time for spring. Here are three to try…

-

Rosa ‘Silas Marner’

This new, repeat-flowering shrub rose has delicately ruffled, shell-pink petals (right) and a scent redolent of apricot and lemon. It cuts well, too. (£22; davidaustinroses.co.uk)

Rosaglauca

Small, bright pink flowers in summer (left) are followed by bountiful red hips in autumn, but this shrub rose’s true glory is its plum-grey foliage, which looks great against brickwork.

(£16.50; classicroses.co.uk)

Rosa ‘Mme. Alfred Carrière’

A repeat-flowering climber that will shoot up to over 7m tall, clothing everything in its path. It has soft green foliage and large, white, fragrant blooms blushed with palest pink (left). (£14.45; roses.co.uk)
