When setting the table, whether for a feast or a meaningful gathering, create a harmonious colour scheme. You don’t want visual noise to distract the conversation.

Mix simple porcelain plates with cutlery and glassware that has been worn by time. You want to create a balance of the rough and the elegant.

Fill a beautiful fruit bowl with grapes, apples, walnuts, and much more besides. There’s something decadent, almost bacchanal, about a display like this.

Use antique linens as place settings. If they aren’t the perfect fit, then roughly cut them to size. It will only add to the charm.

Light candles to create a soft and beautiful atmosphere. In France, we say ‘everybody is beautiful in candlelight’.
