Mono STONE

-

Retreating into a space swathed in natural, textural stone creates a cocooning feel that’s sure to soothe our inner cave-dweller. The effect is not lost on BE Architecture, which carried the same rugged stone over the tub, floors and walls in this bathroom (opposite). Design duo Yabu Pushelberg has employed Salvatori’s mastery of the material to create the pleasingly curvy new ‘Anima’ collection (above), which can be matched to walls and floors for a monotone look. In this Johannesburg home, a slate-clad shower (below left) features a shelf nook that blends into the uninterrupted expanse of rock. FAP Ceramiche’s ‘Maku’ range of porcelain stoneware tiles ( below centre) offers a lighter way to bring in all-over texture, while Nicolas Schuybroek Architects chose sleek striated slabs for a built-in sink, vanity and other surfaces ( below right)

for a refined feel. ( bearchitecture.com; salvatori.it; fapceramiche.com; ns-architects.com)
