GARDEN state

It’s widely acknowledged that surrounding ourselves with greenery can have a positive effect on wellbeing. Aside from its mood-boosting properties, foliage has the added benefit of injecting colour and softening the hard surfaces of bathroom spaces, so consider making a feature of it. An internal courtyard filled with potted plants and trees spills over into the bathroom space of this home by Edition Office, merging outside and in (above). Belgian boutique guesthouse and gallery Kind of OJ has transformed the edge of a wall into a mini garden, allowing plants to cascade down into the shower itself ( below left), while London-based Loud Architects freed up floor space by creating a vertical garden in the alcove of this bijoux bathroom ( below centre). Australian practice Dan Gayfer Design ( below right) took a different tack with a built-in planter that forms part

of the shower enclosure. (edition-office.com; kindofoj.com; loudarchitects.com; dangayfer.com)
