Let there be LIGHT

-

Exposure to daylight regulates our circadian rhythm (sleep-wake cycle), so the bathroom should ideally be flooded with natural light to help us start the day feeling energised. Skylights or windows placed high up amplify the feeling of light pouring in, as this project (above left) by Polo Architects shows. Place full-length windows in areas you spend the most time in; Steinbauer Architektur + Design has neatly framed Kaledwei’s ‘Conoduo’ bathtub with a window to soak in the view (above centre), while Newman Architecture’s space invites the outside in via a large floor-to-ceiling design next to the shower (above right). A skylight in a bathroom clad with The Tile People’s ‘Work’ range drenches the space in light ( below left), and Studio Brent Lee adapted its bathroom design to suit the architecture ( below right), sinking a custom bath into the floor so that bathers could enjoy the view from the low window.
