WHEN IN ROME
Nestled in the petite Salario neighbourhood near the landscaped gardens of Villa Borghese, the new Hoxton in Rome marks two milestones for the hip chain: its triumphant arrival in Italy and tenth hotel. The emphasis here is on doing as the Romans do, with rich, retro-tinged interiors inspired by classic Italian cinema – think parquet flooring, wood panelling, and, in some rooms, Murano chandeliers rescued during renovations. The common spaces, created in collaboration with design studio Fettle, take their cue from the original details of the 1970s building, and will feature an open lobby set around a central fireplace, a farm-to-table restaurant, coffee bar and outdoor terrace. Travellers are sure to turn up, but as with all Hoxtons, the hope is that locals will, too. From approx £146 per night (thehoxton.com).
