NATASCHA MAKSIMOVIC
The Margatebased printmaker and illustrator who specialises in ‘Suminagashi’, the Japanese concept of f loating ink
What inspires your work? I draw inspiration from artists such as Anni Albers, who blurred the lines between traditional craft and art as a textile artist and printmaker, and Paul Klee, whose incredible colour and line studies are a constant fascination to me. I’m also influenced by my German heritage in terms of its history and art, such as The Weimar culture, including the Bauhaus, and the Dada movement.
How would you describe your style? I create unique wallpaper pieces by hand, reimagining traditional processes for a contemporary setting. I’d describe my work as abstract and colourful, delicate yet bold, and rooted in nature. Tell us about your latest collection. ‘Metamorphosis’ is a marbled wallpaper collection with a colour palette inspired to bring us out of hibernation.
What’s next? I’m concentrating on the sustainability of my practice, and working on a botanical dye wallpaper range inspired by the patternsandcolours of the scallop shell. natmaks.com
