Metallic finishes and a playful take for children keep the design feeling current
An early example of what could be achieved with injectionmoulded ABS plastic, the ‘Componibili’ was a watershed moment in persuading consumers to embrace the material as a high-design finish for the home. It fully deserves its place in the collections of New York’s MoMA and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. And it still has the capacity for reinvention: chrome, gold and copper finishes (below) were introduced in 2014 and, in 2017, Italian designer and architect Fabio Novembre adapted the fingerholes to create a ‘Smile’ version in red (right) for children.
