Manchester’s new Jewish Museum and Sutton Hoo, home of The Dig, gets a viewing tower. Plus, Japanese architect Taro Tsuruta tells us about his innovative approach to timber
London-based Nissen Richards Studio has installed a 17-metre-high viewing tower at one of the UK’s key archaeological sites. Anyone who’s watched Netflix film ‘The Dig’ will be familiar with Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, where excavations in the 1930s led to the discovery of a 7th-century burial ship and an array of treasure. Nissen Richards spent five years transforming the visitor experience, with the tower offering elevated views of the burial mounds (nationaltrust.org.uk/sutton-hoo; nissenrichardsstudio.com).
