BATHROOM DIRECTIONS

As director of design at C.P. Hart, Yousef Mansuri has the inside track on emerging bathroom trends. He shares the ones to watch…

Health and wellbeing has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds, leading to a demand for easy-to-clean surfaces and wallcoverings, but without compromising on style. Soft, rounded organic shapes are proving the most popular, with curves and arches a definite trend. Natural wood is extremely popular, too, both in vanity units, accessories, flooring and even walls – it’s a great way to bring the feeling of nature into a bathroom. Fluted or banded textures, a trend from 2020, continues to grow, and can be found on a huge amount of products.

I see these trends continuing into the coming years, but perhaps developing in colour and tone. A feeling of comfort and a link to nature are definitely on the rise. Aqua shades of blues and greens continue to be popular, while warmer, earthy tones, such as terracotta and burnt orange, are coming to the fore.

The bathroom is becoming more of a living space, rather than a room purely for the function of cleaning oneself. We are seeing more painted or wallpapered walls to add softness, and where space allows, even the addition of seating/lounging areas. We like to include niches or side tables beside baths, as practical perches for toiletries, an iPad, or even a glass of wine while soaking in the tub.

The internet – namely Instagram and Pinterest – has been especially important for providing inspiration over the past 18 months when design shows have not been able to go ahead, and can help set trends. However, with such events now back in full swing, I expect to see many ideas and trends evolving and being pushed forward. cphart.co.uk
