INSIDE MY BATHROOM
Lisa Persse’s design tips
Favourite materials to use? We always use timeless, natural materials; a bathroom is a place of wellness, where you want to be able to unwind, and they make a space feel grounded.
Top lighting tricks? Natural light is best, so position the vanity unit or mirror
as close to daylight as possible. Keep hanging lights or wall lights at eye level; below the chin or too high creates shadows in the wrong places.
Go-to finishes? Brass has seen a big revival in recent years and I love it for its warmth. It’s a living finish that develops a patina over time so you either maintain to keep it pristine or let it age naturally. Silver nickel is also a beautiful metal finish – it’s a softer version of chrome.
Anything else to consider? The correct layout and storage – that’s key. Recessed
mirror cabinets are wonderful while a well-designed vanity unit is practical and
acts as an aesthetic focal point.
