PIERRE CHARPIN
Silhouettes, so important in the world of fashion, were a starting point for French designer Charpin’s take on the ‘Medallion’ chair. First and foremost an artist, having studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges, he visualised his reinterpretation of the classic piece as ‘a simple, graphic silhouette, almost like a drawing in space’. Consisting of a steel structure covered with a sleek black lacquered resin, his streamlined design very recognisably retains the key elements of the original, but what sets it apart is its mirrored seat. ‘To gaze upon oneself before being looked at,’ is, he says, essential to the world of fashion. pierrecharpin.com
