INDIA MAHDAVI

-

Describing her style as ‘polyglot and polychrome’, Iranian-French architect and designer Mahdavi was uniquely placed to take a French icon and give it a bright, multicultural makeover. Having worked with the fashion house before – creating tableware for Dior Maison in 2016 – she has a history when it comes to pushing the boundaries of French classicism. Her take on the ‘Medallion’ chair utilises ari, a Kashmiri embroidery technique, to create a total of five colourful reinventions, each featuring three unique patterns – one on the seat, plus different ones on the front and rear of the backrest. ‘Together,’ says Mahdavi, ‘they create a cohesive tribe, despite their individuality.’ india-mahdavi.com
