Richard Malone, fashion designer, photographed with model Emilie
Sustainability may be at the heart of Richard Malone’s designs, but he operates according to one catchy mantra: ‘People want to buy clothes they can get laid in!’ The Central Saint Martins graduate has resourcefulness in his bones: ‘I grew up in Ireland, in a house my dad built in the garden of my grandmother’s cottage. And when I was at Saint Martins, I made things out of what I could find,’ he says. His swingy silhouettes are the result of a carefully considered supply chain: ‘I work with artisans from Tamil Nedhu, who get work-related benefits and 4OO% the Fair Trade wage – the reinvestment into their craft and heritage is worth it.’
