BEING PLANET FRIENDLY doesn’t mean GIVING UP LUXURY
Admittedly, I thought spraying myself with a sustainable fragrance would be the equivalent of dousing myself in tree sap. Quite the contrary. ‘Sustainable doesn’t mean having to compromise on ingredients – it involves being able to fully understand the impact of each step of the supply chain on the environment and on society,’ explains Amy Christiansen Si-Ahmed of Sana Jardin. ‘You can still use both synthetic and raw ingredients, so long as they’re produced in a sustainable manner.’ Her Sandalwood scent, £95 for 5Oml EDP, is a prime example. Not only are the ingredients sustainably cultivated and hand-picked by an all-women team of flower harvesters, the concoction is entirely moreish. Le Labo’s The Noir, £125 for 5Oml EDP, also earned a permanent place on my fragrance shelf. Made from sustainably sourced raw ingredients, it smells like fig-spiked black tea leaves and is also refillable for a lesser price in store.
