THE DISRUPTORS

ELLE meets the incredible women revolutionising the tech industry – and our education, social lives and work as a result

The future is looking bright for women in tech. Although only 17 per cent*

of the 2.1 million people** working in the notoriously male-dominated industry

in the UK are women, a new cohort of visionaries is on a mission to reboot

the system. Whether leading projects to get girls into STEM subjects or

implementing strategies to hire more women in senior leadership, they’re

closing the gender gap and changing the conversation. This matters. As we

look to the future, the gender balance in tech companies goes far beyond

what’s fair for female employees – to build a brave new world that serves

everyone, we need more diversity. As the pioneering British computer scientist

Karen Spärck Jones said: ‘Computing is too important to be left to men.’
