Demure elegance was all over the AW19 runways – here’s how to master the hair and make-up styles

The PILLOWY LIP

Lips were softly sculpted backstage at Brandon Maxwell. Recreate the look by applying concealer first to create a blank canvas, so you can make the bow of the lips extra precise. Outlining has never been easier with YSL Beauty’s Vernis À Lèvres Water Stains, £29 (right). The teardrop-shaped wand gets right into the corners and leaves a pleasing plumping effect.

The FINISHING TOUCH

This look isn’t about contouring with bronzer or sculpting with shimmer, but instead a subtle hint of light-catching glow. The new Givenchy Healthy Glow Powder Marbled Limited Edition in No. 2.5, £42 (above), is a marbled hybrid of ever-so-slightly iridescent highlighter and sun-kissed colour – and will do just that in one soft sweep. Concentrate on the ‘high points’: temples, cheekbones and décolletage.

The INSPIRATION

The bolder and more fluttery the eyelashes, the better. Use eyelash curlers to prep and make sure to wipe any excess product off your mascara brush to avoid caking, allowing the bristles to grip onto lashes. Layer a good four or five times to get the full glamorous effect, as demonstrated on ELLE’s September 1986 cover (right).

The SKIN BASICS

Layering skincare in the correct order is the best way to get a sleek finish. Start with a deep cleansing mask (Aurelia Overnight Recovery Mask, £58, right) before quenching with a hyaluronic serum (Lancer Soothe & Hydrate Serum, £63). Choose primers with silky textures and a barely-there tint for a dewy finish (Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer, £4O, and Lumene Glow Fresh Skin Tint, £32.9O, above left).

The ENDS
